Active Shooter Training
Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office
Active Shooter Training for Washtenaw County school staff was implemented over four years ago when school violence and shootings escalated across the nation. All school personnel in Washtenaw County public schools are encouraged to obtain the training, conducted by the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office and local law enforcement agencies.
What Are The Major Elements of Active Shooter Training?
- Alert: Sound an alarm of the situation and call 9-1-1.
- Lockdown: Lock doors to provide a time barrier and give students and teachers time to recognize the threat.
- Inform: Keep teachers, students, and police up to date on the shooters location inside the school if possible.
- Counter: Interrupt the physical act of the shooting.
- Evacuate: Evacuate as fast as possible during any stage that the students are not near the shooter.
